Sainte Chapelle – (1 st)
Built in 1245-8, this Gothic-style medieval church with its 247 foot spire was built to house religious relics including Christ’s Crown of Thorns. Noted for its magnificent stained glass windows and often called “a Gateway to Heaven, Sainte Chapelle is one of the most beautiful churches in Paris. Sacré Coeur – (18 th)
Sacred Heart is situated at the highest point of Paris and the panoramic views outside this white-domed basilica are especially spectacular. Built as a memorial to the tens of thousands of French soldiers killed during the Franco-Prussian War, the stone façade secretes calcite when wet and bleaches its exterior white.
